Description
The PAM-198-P is a high-performance digital power amplifier with integrated position control, which has been specially developed for driving proportional directional control valves with electrical position feedback. The unit enables precise control of the spool position and can be optimally adapted to different valve types thanks to a wide range of adjustable parameters.
Key performance characteristics and control system
- Highly dynamic control: The control loop operates with a sampling time of 1 ms, whilst the integrated power output stage for magnetic flux control has a cycle time of just 0.125 ms.
- Precise current output: The output current is regulated and is therefore independent of the supply voltage (12–30 VDC) and the magnet’s resistance. The magnet’s rated current can be digitally configured up to a value of 2.6 A.
- Flexible signal adaptation: The analogue inputs for setpoint and actual value are freely scalable and support signal ranges of 0…10 V, -10…+10 V and 4…20 mA.
- Controller configuration: The module uses a PID controller with feedforward and a switching integrator to ensure a rapid response to setpoint changes whilst avoiding oscillation at the operating point. It can control valves with either one or two solenoids.
Digital parameterisation and functions
Configuration is carried out easily via an integrated USB interface (Type B) using the WPC-300 software. The available functions include:
- Four-quadrant ramp: Separately adjustable ramp times for ramp-up and ramp-down in both directions.
- Overrange compensation (MIN/MAX): Digital setting to compensate for the valve dead zone and to scale the output signal.
- Characteristic curve linearisation: It is possible to adjust the signal characteristics using 10 XY data points, for example to establish a linear relationship between the input signal and physical quantities.
- Dither function: Adjustable frequency and amplitude to reduce mechanical static friction in the valve.
Hardware and Security
- Compact design: The device is designed as a snap-on module for mounting on standard DIN rails (EN 50022).
- Status monitoring: Three LEDs on the front panel indicate the operating status: a green READY LED indicates whether the unit is ready for use or whether there is a fault, whilst two yellow LEDs indicate the current intensity at magnets A and B.
- Comprehensive diagnostics: The power amplifier is continuously monitored for cable breaks and short circuits. In the event of a fault, the power amplifier is deactivated and the READY output is switched off.
- Additional functions: An integrated 8V reference voltage output can be used to power external sensors or potentiometers.
Thanks to its robust construction (protection class IP20) and precise digital adjustability, the PAM-198-P is an ideal solution for demanding hydraulic applications in the industrial sector.
